Islamabad: A powerful earthquake jolted Pakistan, India, and Afghanistan on Tuesday evening at around 9:49 p.m.
The resident panicked and ran to the streets , according to witnesses. No casualties have been reported so far.
According to Pakistan’s Meteorological Department, the earthquake was of 6.8 magnitude , and its epicentre was in the Hindu Kush mountain range near the remote northern Afghan province of Badakhshan.
Initial reports said the tremor was felt in Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul, as well as a number of Pakistani and Indian cities, including Islamabad, Lahore, and Delhi.
The US Geological Survey (USGS), however, reported a 6.5 magnitude earthquake was felt in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. Its epicentre was about 40 kilometers (25 miles) south-southeast of the Afghan town of Jurm, near the borders with Pakistan and Tajikistan.
Tremors were reported from Indian-held Kashmir.
